TREE OF LIFE
This sculpture, envisioned as an entrance to a library or school, expresses a metaphorical transition out to the horrors of war and the holocaust, reflected by the anguished lower figures, into the unity of the couple in the gate’s center. The branches radiate out from a central scholarly figure reading to a child, the ideas growing into the iconic fruits of the Tree of Life. These symbols, sowed by the seeds of Judaism, blossom into all the wonderful areas of learning – a spectrum of subjects ranging from math, science and astronomy to literature, music and art. Tree of Life symbolizes the rich contributions made by scholars and teachers throughout history.
