YIN YANG
Male and female, Yin and Yang, are joined in a modern, yet timeless, design motif. In the center is a figure of a baby, expressing the combined Yin (passive, often called feminine energy) and Yang (active or masculine energy) - both literally and figuratively. Yin-yang is an ancient philosophical concept of duality, where two opposing but interconnected forces perpetuate one another and achieve balance. Johnston was the only United States representative invited to join sculptors from eight countries in China, each commissioned to complete a marble work for a new museum. Johnston’s work is a uniquely warm and human perspective on the yin yang. This piece is also an unusual joining of marble with bronze.
